BBC Fails To Offer “Good Value For Money”
Only one in four people think that the BBC is good value for its licence fee, according to the findings of CIA Sensor, a new fortnightly national survey from CIA MediaLab. Almost one third of respondents (31%) feel that the BBC does not provide enough programmes that they like, with 33% feeling that the quality of BBC programmes has declined in the last few years.
Only one in ten people feel that the BBC is out of touch or too middle class, suggesting that the BBC’s recently published-programming strategy document, People and Programmes may be too self-critical. Only 3% of people perceive the BBC as too high-brow and only 8% believe it is too old-fashioned. On the question of regional bias, CIA Sensor found that only 18% of people in the UK as a whole believe that the BBC is too biased towards London and the South East. However, over 50% of people in Scotland support this view.
CIA Sensor also found that joint promotions between national newspapers and television game shows appear to be successful; 56% of heavy TV viewers and 48% of tabloid newspaper readers are aware of and enjoy the promotions. CIA Sensor is a survey of 500 adults every fortnight.
