The new London freesheet The London Weekly will launch on 1 February, with £10.5 million in funding from Global Publishing Group, according to a report on brandrepublic.com.

The paper will be distributed twice a week – on Fridays and Saturdays – outside rail and tube stations in the capital and be accompanied by a website launching on 20 December.

As well as the website, the paper will have its own online radio station and awards ceremony celebrating London attractions.

In a market which has seen two freesheets fall by the wayside, The London Weekly will have its work cut out, particularly as it will be up against the now free London Evening Standard.

According to the media pack for the new paper, a full-page advert will cost £5,250 and a double-page spread will be priced at £9,291.
