Dish Sales Unaffected By Price Cuts

Latest research conducted by GfK Marketing Services indicates that the number of British households with satellite dishes has not grown significantly in the last few months, in spite of the continuous drop in the average price of satellite recieving equipment, and recent special offers.

In the first few months of this year there was a slow but steady growth in the satellite market (31,000 in January, 32,000 in February and 33,000 in March). The steady increase has slighty fallen in April 1995 with an increase in growth of 27,000 to 3,054,000.

However, since the beginning of the year, the average price of satellite receiving equipment has fallen rapidly, from £211.00 in January to £181.00 in April. April also coincided with a number of promotions which offered a receiver and dish for just £99.00.

GfK’s spokesperson John Binks said “Our research suggests that the recent £99 system promotions have had little effect on satellite take up in Britain. In April, when the promotions started running, we also witnessed the smallest rise in the number of satellite homes since June 1994.”
