TV Overnights: C4’s My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding bags the top spot

Channel 4’s new Cutting Edge documentary My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding secured the highest ratings during the all-important peak-hour last night with more than 4.9 million viewers.

The one-off documentary, which followed brides-to-be as they planned their gypsy and traveller weddings, pulled in 4.5 million average viewers and a 17.3% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

However, ITV1’s The Bill came a fairly close second with 4.1 million peak viewers.  The long-running crime drama held the peak audience share after Coronation Street finished at 9pm but slipped down to an average of 3.8 million viewers and a 14.7% average share during the full hour-long slot.

Elsewhere, BBC One’s new Masterchef series with John Torode and Greg Wallace attracted 3.7 million average viewers and a 14.4% audience share between 8.30pm and 10pm.

BBC Two, meanwhile, saw Mock the Week pull in 2.3 million viewers and a 9.2% share in the first 30 minutes of the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour, followed by Rab C Nesbitt‘s 1.4 million viewers and 5.7% share.

Over on Five, the Liverpool v Unirea Urziceni match scored a high of more than 3 million viewers and a 8.5% average audience share between 7.30pm and 10.10pm.

Earlier on in the evening, Eastenders‘ special hour-long wedding episode banked more than 11.3 million peak viewers and an impressive 41.5% average audience share between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, ITV1’s Emmerdale and Coronation Street pulled in over 7.9 million peak viewers and 8.8 million peak viewers respectively.
