BBC One’s new peak-time mystery drama starring Suranne Jones and David Morrissey started on a high of more than 7.5 million viewers last night.

The first episode of Five Days, which is set to continue every evening this week, attracted over 7.3 million average viewers and a 28.9% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot.

It knocked ITV1’s new six-part comedy drama Married Single Other off the top spot.  The second episode of the series, which stars Ralf Little and Lucy Davis, pulled in 3.9 million average viewers and a 15.5% audience share, compared to the 6.2 million average viewers it debuted with during the same slot last week.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s new Secret Millionaire series banked 2.4 million average viewers and a 9.5% audience share between 9pm and 10pm, while BBC Two’s new hour-long documentary Why Did You Kill My Dad? picked up 755,000 viewers and a 2.9% share.

Five’s prime time film A Fistful of Dollars, meanwhile, pulled in 1.5 million average viewers and a 7.3% audience share between 9pm and 11.10pm.

Earlier on in the evening, the soaps battled it out for the pre-watershed top spot.  ITV1’s Coronation Street just managed to pip BBC One’s Eastenders with a high of 10.7 million viewers compared to Eastenders‘ 10.4 million.
