New figures from Nielsen show that 8 of the UK’s top 10 media agencies suffered billings declines in 2009.

According to a report in MediaWeek, just two agencies increased their billings last year; Mediaedge:cia was up 9.2% year on year to 5th place, while Vizeum enjoyed a 7.5% rise, taking to to 8th in the top 10.

Despite a 10% drop in billings to below £1 billion, MediaCom remains in top spot, said MediaWeek, followed by Carat, OMD and Mindshare in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Starcom UK Group and ZenithOptimedia are in 6th and 7th positions, while the final two spots are taken by Walker Media and PHD, which, despite a 3.1% fall, moves up one place to 10th spot.

Nielsen releases full UK media agency billings data after 20th March.
