Sky is set to launch its 3D TV channel on April 3 to show the Manchester United v Chelsea match.

Over a thousand pubs and clubs across the UK and Ireland are expected to show the live match in 3D next month after signing up for Sky’s 3D service and investing in LG 3D-ready television sets.

The new channel, which is Europe’s first dedicated 3D channel, will be made available to Sky customers who own a 3D-ready set in their homes from next month.  It is compatible with Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic 3D sets.

Sky subscribers will also need 3D glasses to view content on the channel, which has yet to be assigned a number on the broadcaster’s EPG.

Initially, the 3D channel will only show Premier League matches and promotional clips from the best of Sky’s 3D content, although when the full roll-out takes place later in the year, the channel will offer a range of special 3D films, sport, documentaries, entertainment and arts content.
