XL First Issue Review

XL First Issue Review

XL is a new monthly health, fitness and lifestyle magazine for men, launched on the 9th of February. A glossy, high profile feel, XL has 117 pages and a £2.95 cover price. It will, say the publishers, Stonehart, appeal to 25-45 year old men in the ABC1 socio economic group.

Editorially, XL has a distinctly sporty feel. In this, the first issue, the launch editor, Paul Colbert assures the reader that this magazine won’t preach at you, but will “place useful, sensible, practical information and sports interests in front of you, and let you decide.”

Rowing, diving, football, fencing, rugby, and snowboarding are all covered in the first issue. There’s an interview with Colin Jackson on hurdling, diet, and life, and another on the rowing brothers Greg and Jonny Searle.

Fitness is tackled in a practical and comprehensive way, with routines for active men and men needing to get fit. Fitness articles range from The Ultimate Press-Up to Sex in the Gym which looks at reasons other than fitness to go.
