A trade press article claiming that the Granada Group is about to mount a joint bid for the Channel 5 licence with BSkyB has been denied by both companies.
Chris Hopson, Head of Public Affairs at Granada said, “We are talking to a lot of people, including BSkyB. Our position remains the same – we have yet to be convinced of the commercial viability of the project.”
Time Warner last week announced that it had withdrawn from the bidding for Channel 5; it had been part of the consortium which included Pearson and MAI. This was attributed to problems on the technical side.
