Cable – Largest Ever Rise In Subscribers
The number of broadband cable subscribers rose in the last quarter of 1994 by 130,000, according to the ITC’s cable statistics for 1 January. Speaking today at the FT Cable, Satellite and New Media Conference, Jon Davey, the ITC’s Director of Cable and Satellite said that this represents the most substantial growth in the cable television audience yet recorded. It reflects the faster construction of new networks which increased the availability of cable by 50% in the course of last year.
The ITC’s latest quarterly cable statistics show that there are now 80 operating franchises, compared to 65 in January 1994. Over 4 million homes have now been passed, and 909,043 actually connected, up 130,000 on the previous quarter, and up almost 300,000 on the same period last year.
