Last night saw ITV1’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League football match between Manchester United and Bayern Munich dominate ratings for the majority of its running time.
The coverage, on from 7.30pm to 10pm, had a peak audience of 7.8 million viewers (a 33% share of viewing) as the match reached its climax.
Unfortunately for Manchester United fans, it was not a happy ending, as despite winning the match 3-2, the home side went out to the Germans on the away goals rule after drawing 4-4 on aggregate.
An average of 6.3 million viewers (a 28.4% share) stuck with the programme for its full running time.
It looks like many viewers then nipped over to BBC One to catch the end of the MasterChef grand final, which saw Dhruv Baker crowned cooking champ.
The show, on from 9pm, had a peak audience of 6.2 million viewers (a 27.1% share), with an average of 5.2 million sticking with it for its hour duration.
At 10pm, Channel 4’s Bruce Forsyth: A Comedy Roast – featuring a host of comedians lining up to poke good natured fun at the ageing presenter – had a peak of 2.1 million viewers.
