Midsomer Murders was the most viewed show last night from 8pm to 9pm, with an average of 4.9 million viewers (a 21% share of the entire TV audience) tuning in.

A peak of 5 million viewers (a 21.2% share) watched the long-running detective show.

Over on Channel 4 at 9pm was the first episode of new series Jamie Does…, where galloping gourmet Jamie Oliver jets around the world tasting the culinary delights of different regions.

He was in Marrakech last night, with an average of 2.3 million viewers (9.7%) coming along for the ride, peaking at 2.4 million (10%).

Traffic Cops, on BBC One at the same time, had an audience average of 3.9 million (16.1%), peaking at 4.3 million (17.7%).
