TV Overnights: 4.5m watch Joanna Lumley’s Nile

Last night’s big ratings winner in the 9pm slot was Joanna Lumley’s Nile, with the laid back sight-seeing show coming out on top again on its second outing.

On for an hour, the show had an average 4.5 million viewers (an 18.6% share of the total TV audience), peaking at 4.7 million (a 19.2% share) just after it started. This was down slightly on last week’s average of 4.8 million viewers for the debut episode.

Over on BBC One at the same time, never-ending cop show New Tricks grabbed 4 million viewers (a 16.5% share), peaking at 4.2 million (17.4%).

On Channel 4 at 9pm for an hour was Blitz Street, which recreated the sights and sounds of a wartime London street under fire.

The first episode focused on the outbreak of the Blitz in September 1940 and saw the specially created street hit by “a frightening range of large-scale bombs and incendiaries similar to those dropped by the Luftwaffe.

Bomb lovers got to see the impact of the SC50 (containing 25kg of TNT), the most common bomb dropped on the first day of bombing in London, and the SC500 bombs (containing 250kg of TNT).

Around 1.7 million viewers (a 6.9% share) tuned into the blitzkrieg action.
