Grampian Approve OKTV

According to Grampian Television, viewers in Scotland are welcoming the new interactive television service from OKTV *(Successful Launch For OKTV). It is claimed that 1622 handsets have been ordered by Scottish viewers and over 3000 more are expected by the end of this week. 2000 competition calls were received on the first weekend and around 2000 calls are now received each day.

OKTV’s origins go back to 1985 when Chris Curry, founder of Acorn Computers, developed smart card technology for home shopping. This technology provides the basis for OKTV. Viewers have handsets where they can interact with quizzes or shop and purchase products.

A full national launch is expected next year and OKTV are currently in talks concerning the launch of the service in Ireland, Belgium, Canada and China.
