ITC Opposes C4 Privatisation

ITC Opposes C4 Privatisation

According to reports in yesterday’s Guardian, the Independent Television Commission (ITC) has written to Virginia Bottomley, the National Heritage Secretary, stating that the privatisation of Channel 4 could hinder the station’s remit to serve minority interests. Members of the ITC also believe that the move would make regulation for the channel much more difficult to enforce.

It is believed that Virginia Bottomley is impressed by the ITC’s statements and has put the manifesto regarding Channel 4’s privatisation on the sidelines at the Conservative Party Conference this week.

Rumours of the government’s plan to privatise Channel 4 developed earlier this year *(Channel 4 Sell-off Rumours), and Channel 4 has made it clear that it will fight such a move.
