NRS Figures – September
The National Readership Survey for September has shown that, among the quality daily newspapers, the FT recorded the biggest increase in readership, rising over 10% to 776,000. The Daily Telegraph saw its readership slump by 9.16% and the Independent lost 66,000 readers. Among the Sunday qualities, only News International’s Sunday Times managed to grow its readership and the Independent On Sunday had the biggest losses, with readership falling by 11%.
Within the mid-market sector the Express still does not appear as a serious rival to the Mail. In September the Daily Mail recorded a big increase in readership of 16.4% in comparison to the Daily Express which dropped 6.23%. The tabloid market remains weak in terms of readership with only the Sun showing a microscopic increase of 0.09%.
Within the women’s weeklies sector Hello! had the largest readership increase, growing by over 8% and Eva had the next biggest growth, with a 7.3% increase. People’s Friend however performed the worst, with readership dropping by over 20% to 1.107 million. Among the women’s monthlies Clothes Show Magazine performed the best, growing its readership to 864,000 while Top Sante Health & Beauty increased to 491,000. At the other end of the scale Woman & Home saw its readership plummet by 32%.
The success of the men’s sector continued in September, with most titles showing good growth. Emap’s FHM recorded a staggering 125% increase in readership and Loaded‘s growth also continues with readership increasing by 75%.
