ABC Considers Regional Press Changes
At a recent meeting of the ABC regional press working party, Newspaper Society representatives and media buyers agreed to look at formulating a policy for concurrent release, on an optional basis, for the 600-plus paid for newspapers certified by the ABC.
A major consideration for the scheme will be what submission deadline will need to be set to enable as many publishers to participate in the scheme as wish to. ABC also want to ensure however that adequate processing time is set aside for the release date to be met.
A proposal has also been accepted to introduce six monthly reporting on a rolling quarterly basis. What this essentially means is that publishers will have access to two additional six month periods: April-September and October-March which will overlap the existing January-June and July-December periods. ABC hopes that this will provide greater currency of ABC data for both media owners and buyers.
The working party has agreed that the additional periods would not need to be separately audited since they would encompass the other two periods. The proposal will now go before the full ABC Council when it meets on 4 December, to seek final ratification before introduction from January 1997.
