United News & Media put in a strong performance on Tuesday when it announced its £592m purchase of exhibition group Blenheim, rising 40 to 693.5p.
BSkyB also rose reasonably steadily throughout the week.. On Monday it advanced 8.5 to 658.5p on speculation that DFI, the German pay TV channel was about to buy a 5% stake. An upbeat trading statement from News Corporation, which owns 40% of BSkyB, on Tuesday meant that stock continued to rise, strengthening 18 to reach 676.5p

Some renewed bid speculation meant both HTV and YTT-TV rose throughout the week, with HTV reaching 386.5p and Yorkshire 1217.5p.
Pearson’s price initially fell on Thursday with the announcement of a new top management team *Twivy Issues Writ Against Dorlands, though this was clawed back throughout the day so that the media and entertainment group finished 12p up at 688.5p.
