Telegraph Angered By Times Claim
The latest Advertising Standards Authority report has upheld a complaint regarding a feature in the Times stating that it had the largest sport section of any daily newspaper. The complaint was from the Telegraph which said its sports section was bigger. The Authority ruled that the Times could not provide any evidence to supports its claim.
A special offer in the Sun and News of the World was deemed to be misleading. The newspapers offered readers the chance to have Sky for £89.99 with free installation and free Sky Movies. The offer did not state that it depended on a monthly subscription to other Sky channels for £21.99. The Authority acknowledged that vital information had been withheld from the promotion.
A complaint was received for an advertisement in the Sky TV Guide concerning the recently launched Playboy channel. The complainant suggested that the advertisement was unacceptable for a family magazine because it featured the top half of five women in provocative poses. The advertisers said the advertisement had been put through the correct clearing procedures and thought it was unlikely to offend readers. The complaint was not upheld.
