Survey Shows Mixed Results For Satellite Channels
A survey carried out by EMS, the European Media and Marketing Survey, has revealed that over half of the satellite channels it included in its research are experiencing a decline in viewers. Euronews, CNN, NBC and MTV have lost viewers, while EBN, BBC World and Eurosport have increased viewing by 68.4%, 64.3% and 2.5% respectively.
Eurosport has the largest audience of the pan-European channels with an average daily audience of 3.758 million, followed by CNN with 1.543 million. EBN remains the smallest of the channels with an average of 96,000 daily viewers.
In terms of newspapers and magazines, the Times has the most daily readers with 1.27 million while the Paris Match is the most read weekly. Reader’s Digest is the most read monthly, with 5.394 million readers while Cosmopolitan has 3.815 million.
The survey also revealed that on a daily basis the Internet is used by 4% of people for e-mail and 2.5% for business purposes.
The research was conducted amongst 40 million main income earners across Europe.
…Media group Emap is reported to have bought a stake in the music channel The Box, though a spokeswoman at the company was not aware such a move had been made.
