T3 Magazine – First Issue Review

T3: Tomorrow’s Technology Today was launched yesterday by Future Publishing and bridges the gap between the “new lad” audience and technophiles. T3, published monthly at £2.95, looks at the latest developments in technology such as photography, musical equipment, household objects, computers and cars.
T3 is divided into three areas; Technofile, Every Month In T3 and Objects of Desire. Technofile covers all the latest news, gossip and developments. Every Month In T3 is divided into sub-sections including competitions, questions and answers and general features. Objects of Desire reviews all the latest gadgets on the market which are probably too expensive to buy.
The magazine itself keeps the reader engrossed mainly because the designs and features of new gadgets is fascinating when compared with current technology. For example, today’s camcorder technology and sizes are amazing but the future models in T3 are even smaller and more technical. T3 resembles the technology sections in men’s magazines such as GQ and FHM, and excels in the fact that it avoids technical jargon. TomWalder, MediaTel’s IT director commented: “T3 is a psuedo men’s magazine. Its features on gadgets are interesting and are things which appeal to men.”
T3 has an initial print run of 65,000 and an ad:ed ratio of 14:86. There are mainly full page advertisements (only two half page advertisements in issue one) which are technology related, although there was an ad for Pedigree Bitter. There is also a classified section for reader advertisements.
