October Admissions Drop

Cinema admissions in October averaged 2.3 million a week which is a 14.2% year on year decrease, while total admissions for the month fell from 11.919m to 10.222m.

The Nutty Professor topped the box office, taking £9.7m, but this year’s back-up films were unable to cope with continuing strong performances in the same month last year from Pocahontas, Apollo 13 and Braveheart.

Overall, admissions from January-October total 106 million, an 11% increase on 1995 but a 0.4% drop on 1994. Interim estimates for November also show a decrease although the impact of First Wives Club on the last two weeks of the month have yet to be seen.

A Cinema round-up for January-October 1996 will feature on Newsline next week. Subscribers can access the latest Cinema data by clicking here.
