MTV Networks is believed to be finalising plans for a new music channel to be broadcast across Europe. A spokeswoman told Newsline that it would probably be based on MTV’s US channel, M2, which shows back-to-back videos and does not carry ads.
The new service, which would join MTV and VH-1 in Europe, would most likely offer indie-type music and more obscure tracks such as B-sides and remixes. A launch date has not been confirmed though it is understood that carriage has been secured on BSkyB’s multi-channel package which is due to launch next Autumn *BSkyB Announces £178m Profit And Plans For More Channels.
