World Cup 2010

ITV1’s coverage of the Brazil v Chile game attracted a high of more than 6.8 million viewers during last night’s prime time slot.

The match, which ended 3-0 to a World Cup ‘favourite’ Brazil, secured over 5.5 million average viewers and a 25.5% audience share for the channel between 7pm and 10.15pm.

However, aside from the football, BBC One dominated the majority of the day-time ratings.  The Netherlands v Slovakia game, which saw Arjen Robben lead the way for the Netherlands as they secured a 2-1 win, taking them to a quarter-final play-off against Brazil, pulled in over 2.9 million peak viewers and a 23.1% average audience share from 2.30pm onwards.

BBC One’s Wimbledon coverage followed with more than 3.5 million peak viewers and a 20% share from 5.15pm.  Later on in the evening, the channel also won back the peak ratings following ITV1’s evening game.  New Tricks banked the top spot between 9.30pm and 10pm with 4 million peak viewers.

BBC Two’s all-day Wimbledon 2010 programme also proved popular.  The live coverage of the men’s and ladies’ fourth-round singles, which saw Murray and the Williams sisters go through to the next stage but Roddick walk away empty-handed, peaked with 3.3 million viewers at around6.45pm.

Later on in the evening, BBC Two’s peak-hour show Mary, Queen of Shops attracted a high of 3.2 million viewers and a 12.1% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same thing, Channel 4’s new drama-documentary The Untold Battle of Trafalgar pulled in 1.5 million average viewers, while Five’s Extraordinary People series continued with Seven Faces in Seven Days, which picked up 1.3 million viewers.
