Bristol United Press Sees Profit Drop

Bristol United Press, the regional newspaper group, has reported a half year drop in profits from £4.49 million to £4.24 million, a fall of 5.6%. Revenue increased slightly from £30.4m to £31.1m.

The drop in profits was mostly due to a rise in newsprint costs which are believed to have peaked during the period though ad revenue increased by 8.6%. It was also revealed that BUP had made an unsuccessful bid for United Provincial Newspapers’ Welsh group, which was bought by Southern Newspapers for £31.5m earlier this month *United News & Media Sell Welsh Titles. BUP is believed to be still on the acquisition trail though it is unlikely it would be interested in UPN South East, UPN’s remaining group which is up for sale.
