TV Overnights: BBC One’s Sherlock wins again

Last night, BBC One’s Sherlock secured the peak slot of 9pm – 10pm once again, with an average of 6.4 million viewers (and a peak of 6.7 million), and a 25.6% average share.

Airing at 8.30pm, the second episode of a three-part series was down from last week’s 7 million viewers and 28.5% share.

On ITV1, Taggart managed to attract 3.8 million viewers and a 15.2% share, while Channel 4’s Big Brother achieved just under 2 million viewers, and a 7.7% share.

Earlier in the evening, BBC One dominated the top ratings, with Countryfile‘s 4.2 million viewers and 19.2% share at 7.30pm.

BBC One also achieved top ratings during afternoon, with Formula 1 coverage from 12.05pm to 3.15pm (attracting 4.5 million viewers and a 39.6% share), and the Eastenders omnibus from 3.15pm to 5.10pm (achieving 1.6 million viewers and a 14% share).

On Saturday evening, BBC One’s Casualty secured the peak slot of 9pm to 10pm, attracting 4.9 million viewers and a share of 23.8%. The long-running hospital drama was slightly down on last week’s ratings of 5.3 million viewers and 24.6% share.

This was despite competition from ITV1’s 30 Years of An Audience With, which managed an average viewing figure of 3.3 million, and a 15.9% share.

Elsewhere, BBC Two’s BBC Proms 2010 achieved 1.1 million viewers and a 6.1% share, while Channel 4’s Big Brother secured 1.7 million viewers and a 6.4% share.

Five’s CSI: Miami managed 1.1 million viewers and a 5.6% share between 9pm and 10pm

Channel 4 dominated during late afternoon and early evening, with its Come Dine With Me Down Under marathon (airing from 3.55pm to 6.30pm) securing a peak of over 1.8 million viewers and a 13.9% share.

BBC One secured the highest ratings during the morning and early afternoon, with its Formula 1 coverage (airing from 12.10pm to 2.30pm) attracting an average of 2.4 million viewers and a 28.1% share.

On Friday evening, the peak slot was shared between BBC One’s My Family, with 4.3 million viewers and a 19.6% share, and ITV1’s Doc Martin, with 3 million viewers and a 14.1% share.

For the same slot, Channel 4’s Big Brother achieved an average viewing figure of 2.6 million and a 12% share, while Five’s The Mentalist managed 1.2 million viewers and a 5.6% share.

From 7pm to 8pm, ITV secured the top ratings with Emmerdale‘s 6.3 million viewers and 32.7% share, and Coronation Street‘s 7.4 million viewers and 35.7% share.

BBC One’s Eastenders achieved the highest ratings from 8pm to 8.30pm, with 8.4 million viewers and a 38.6% share.
