Electronic Telegraph, the online version of The Daily Telegraph, launched Etcetera last week *(Telegraph Launches On-Line Magazine). According to sources at The Daily Telegraph, the site incorporates the latest technology and is different to any other online magazine.
Etcetera is accessed through Electronic Telegraph and is free, although a registration form must be completed. The first page contains general interest news ranging from Hendrix’s lifestyle to Cornwall. There is a menu bar at the top of the page which serves as an index to all sections. The areas include Arts & Books, Connected, Expo, Fashion, Horoscopes, Lingua Franca, Science and Opinion. There is also a Classified section which allows the user to search for specific categories and may be a bonus for advertisers.
Arts & Books reviews all the latest material on the market and has all the latest cinema, theatre, opera and music news. Connected is the online version of The Daily Telegraph’s supplement and has all the latest IT news. Opinion takes comment and analysis articles from The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph and The Spectator and provides a very interesting read. Another interesting sector is Expo which contains exclusive Internet photographs, essays and multimedia features.
Etcetera is an excellent addition to the already popular Electronic Telegraph. The articles are informative and provide a good mix of issues which will interest all ages. There are also numerous links to other sites. The design layout is fairly simple which allows fast access. The quality not only of the articles and features, but also the ability to keep the users interested, is the main success of Etcetera. The only negative point is that more graphics could be employed to make it more appealing to the eye. Other sites, such as Slate*(Website Of The Week: Slate), could learn a few techniques for journalism on the Web from Etcetera.
