TV Overnights: Secret Britain secures the top spot again

Last night, BBC One’s Secret Britain secured the 9pm to 10pm peak slot for the second week running, with 5.3 million viewers and a 21.5% share. This was down on last weeks audience of just under 6 million viewers, and 24.9% share.

This was despite competition from ITV1’s Martin Clunes – Horsepower, the first of a two-part series, which attracted 4.3 million viewers and gained a 17.7% share.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Big Brother secured an audience of 2.3 million and a share of 9.3%, while BBC Two’s Vexed managed 1.8 million and a 7.4% share.

Five’s film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, airing from 8pm to 10.05pm, attracted an average of 1.8 million viewers, and a share of 7.7%.

BBC One dominated during the morning, with BBC Two’s Something for the Weekend briefly taking over from 10am to 11.30am (just over 1 million viewers and 13.6% share).

ITV1 won the afternoon ratings, with The X Factor (2.45pm to 4.15pm) attracting 1.3 million viewers and 12.1% share.

On Saturday night, BBC One won the peak slot, with John Bishop’s Britain (9pm to 9.30pm) securing 3.7 million viewers and a 16.9% share, and Live at the Apollo (9.30pm to 10.15pm) attracting 3.6 million viewers, and a 17.7% share.

ITV1 provided competition with gameshow Magic Numbers achieving an audience of 3.1 million, and a 14.6% share.

Other peak slot offerings were Channel 4’s Big Brother, which attracted 1.9 million viewers and an 8.9% share, and BBC Two’s Have I Got a Bit More News For You, which also secured 1.9 million viewers, and an 8.6% share.

Five’s CSI obtained an audience of 1.5 million, and a share of 7.1%.

Earlier in the evening, ITV1’s X Factor returned with the first episode of its seventh series from 7.30pm to 9pm, securing an average of 10.6 million viewers (and peaking at 11.4 million) and a 45.7% share.

During the day, BBC One won the highest ratings during the morning as usual. ITV1 film The Man with the Golden Gun took over from 1pm to 3.20pm, with an average of 925,000 viewers (peaking at 1.2 million) and a 10.8% share.

On Friday evening, BBC One won the peak slot of 9pm to 10pm, with the final of Celebrity Masterchef attracting an audience of 5.8 million and gaining a 25.1% share.

This was despite competition from ITV1’s Doc Martin, which secured 3.4 million viewers and a 14.6% share.

Elsewhere, Channel 4s Big Brother achieved an audience of 2.8 million and a share of 12.3%, while BBC Two’s Home Movie Roadshow attracted 1.4 million viewers and a 6.2% share.

Five’s The Mentalist obtained an audience of 1.2 million viewers, and a share of 5.3%.

Earlier on Friday, BBC One’s Eastenders won its 8pm to 8.30pm slot with just under 8 million viewers, and a 36.9% share.

ITV1’s Coronation Street won its 8.30pm to 9pm slot with 7.4 million viewers, and a 35.6% share.

During the day, BBC One dominated the morning television schedule, with BBC Two taking over in the afternoon as usual.
