American broadcaster ABC is to launch its first video-on-demand service outside of North America in the UK, after making a deal with BT.

The  company, owned by Walt Disney, is launching its video-on-demand service through BT Vision.

The service will be called ‘ABC TV On Demand’, and will be released on 15 September this year.

ABC Studios have made a range of shows, including Desperate Housewives, Cougar Town, Private Practice, and Brothers & Sisters. These shows will be available a certain time after they have first been broadcast on UK TV.

Additionally, past seasons of shows such as Lost and Ugly Betty will be available.

ABC TV On Demand will be able to be purchased as part of BT Vision’s TV pack, at the price of £6.99 per month.

Individual episodes will cost 99p, as part of a pay-per-view system.

Catherine Powell, senior vice president of media distribution for Disney in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “Through partnering with successful and like-minded digital media platforms, such as BT, we are able to offer choice to consumers in how and when they enjoy our programming.”
