Minx – Preview Issue Review

Emap Elan have launched a preview issue of their new title Minx, bound to this fortnight’s copy of More. Aimed at women aged 18-24, it claims to be ‘less patronising’ than other young women magazines and will try not to be a ‘cut-price therapy centre’.

In terms of editorial the magazine seems to follow the same pattern as any other young women’s magazine containing articles on sex, emotions, celebrities and life. Regular features include horoscopes, advice, readers diaries and confessions.

The magazine does contain some interesting and amusing stories such as the article ‘Bring on the Fire Starters’ about a day spent with the ‘raunchiest fire brigade in Britain’ and an article called ‘Massive Attack’ which featured the outsized entertainers, The Blobendales.

Glossy and A4 in appearance the title has 92 pages – 12 of which are advertisements, giving an ad:ed ratio of 13:87. Advertisers include Bourjois Paris, Russell & Bromley and Neutrogena.

Whilst first impressions suggest the magazine will offer more than other titles of the same genre, closer inspection suggest otherwise, with the content varying very little from titles such as Nineteen, More and Mizz. What is different perhaps is the title’s humour, and ‘Loaded’ style of writing.

The first edition of the magazine will be out on September 12th at £1.95, with an initial print run of 200,000.
