TV Viewing Summary – New Autumn Schedule A Loss With Viewers

The first weekend of the new autumn schedule has seen a lot of new shows appearing on the top thirty programmes list. The highest entry of the new batch of programmes is LWT’s London’s Burning, which was watched by 12.21 million people. The next best new programme was Heartbeat which achieved an audience of 12.14 million viewers. These figures are considerably down on 1995’s autumn schedule start, with Heartbeat in particular losing nearly two million viewers on last year’s figures. With Sunday night’s line-up the same for the past three years ITV may have to start thinking about brightening up its schedule.

Channel 4’s line-up is much the same as previous weeks. The exception being the pilot episode of London’s Burning which makes an appearance at number five being watched by an audience of 3.74 million.

BSkyB’s new satellite station Sky Two has reported viewing figures for the first time. It was watched for an average of ten minutes by all individuals of the age of four and above and has a share of Astra viewing of 0.7%. In comparison Sky One was watched for an average of fifty minutes and has a share of viewing of 3.5%.

Average television viewing for all individuals for the week ending 01/09/96 has fallen by 3.25% when compared to the same week last year. In Astra Panel homes viewing of all channels has fallen by 2.1% on last year’s figures
