Sharewatch W/E 30/8/96
The main mover last week was United News & Media on news that it is putting its regional newspaper business up for sale *United Set For Regional Sell-Off. The City seemed to approve of the move, with shares jumping 18.5p to 723.5p. After this initial excitement the share price dropped, though at 719p this is still higher than Monday’s price of 702p. Possible buyers of the UPN group are thought to be Northcliffe, Newsquest and Trinity Newspapers.
The only other media company to show significant change was Pearson, which on Tuesday rose 19p to 683p amid speculation that might be considering a break-up.
