Channel 4 Rebuked For Advertisement

Channel 4 has apologised to the ITC for transmitting an advertisement for alcohol products during teen soap Hollyoaks. According to the ITC Code on Advertising Breaks alcoholic drinks must not be advertised when there is likely to be an audience under the age of 18. Channel 4 had planned the break to be scheduled before an ITN news summary. The transmission was cancelled, but Channel 4 acknowledged that they failed to spot the change.

Complaints were also received from fifteen viewers regarding an advertisement for soft drink Metz. The advertisement was set on a snow covered mountain featuring a man who always wore a ski mask. It was felt that the image portrayed that of a terrorist or rapist. The ITC did not uphold the complaint as they felt the majority of viewers would not view it in this way.
