E-Mail Could Become The Standard

E-Mail Could Become The Standard

According to a recent survey by The Survey Shop, research on the Internet is primarily based on the World Wide Web and does not take into account its other uses such as e-mail, relay chat, newsgroups or file transfer.

The survey showed that e-mail was the second most used application on the Net with newsgroups in third. The survey also asked e-mail users and non-users what they thought the role of e-mail would be in the next 2-4 years:

Role of e-mail in 2-4 years

Experience of E-mail (%)
All (180) Non-users (62) Under 1 year (68) Over 1 year (50)
Standard means of business communication 76 74 79 72
More important than fax 37 19 43 50
Offering new market opportunities 34 31 32 40
Standard means of communication for all 29 15 32 42
More important than the postal service 16 13 13 22

The results show that the more experienced users believe e-mail is the way forward and a high percentage (74%) of non-users believe e-mail will become a standard means of business communications.
