MediaCom, BSkyB and Guardian News & Media scooped the first ever MRG awards.

The winners, which were announced at the gala dinner in Malta last Friday, include:

  • MediaCom – Best Research Team (media agency)
  • BSkyB – Best Research Team (media owner)
  • Ipsos MediaCT – Best Research Team (research supplier)
  • Guardian News & Media for “GNM Word of Mouth Research” – Best Research Initiative
  • Simon Kendrick, Essential Research – The IPA/Simon Broadbent Award for Best Paper (voted for by conference attendees)

The MRG also highly commended companies “for exceptional work”, including:

  • For Best Research Team (media owner) – Clear Channel and Yahoo!
  • For Best Research Initiative – MediaCom for “Real World Money: a living, breathing study of the recession and the aftermath”; and Omnicom Media Group, UK for “Tapping into the Powerhouse of Digital Ethnic Communities”

Neil Mortensen, MRG co-chair and chair of the judges, said: “The standard for the entries was incredibly high, illustrating the innovative, ground-breaking research being carried out in the media research industry.”

The judges included: Mark Cross, COI; Keith Donaldson, Newspaper Society; Neil Mortensen, OPera Media; Mandy Pooler, Kantar; and Lynne Robinson, IPA.
