Rovi is set to unveil its new Media Cloud and details of a deal with Samsung at the International Consumer Electronics Show this week.

The digital home entertainment company will launch the Rovi Media Cloud – an entertainment web service that has been designed to encourage the creation of new products, services and applications for connected TV.

The Cloud will allow customers to develop products, applications and services with advertising, media recognition, recommendations and search capabilities on multiple platforms, including tablet devices and mobile phones.

A partnership with Samsung will also see Rovi entertainment data and advertising appear on Samsung’s new range of Smart TVs, which are expected to be the ‘product of 2011’.  Parks Associates forecasts that 350 million connected TV sets like Samsung’s latest offerings will be sold worldwide by 2015.

Samsung will now feature a “Your Video” personalised movie recommendation and search portal, allowing users to get descriptive information, images and rich multimedia content on their favourite TV programmes, films, DVD and videos.

In addition, Rovi has signed deal with Trident Microsystems and DENSO to incorporate Rovi technology within their current products.

“Rovi is helping our customers and companies in the entertainment industry bring a variety of products for the connected digital entertainment experience,” said Corey Ferengul, EVP of product management and marketing at Rovi Corporation. “We’re collaborating with industry leaders to help them innovate and design solutions that meet consumer demand for a better way to find and access entertainment content.”
