BBC One’s Tuesday night line-up proved to be a ratings winner once again this week. The channel secured the highest audience share from 7.30pm onwards.
Eastenders started BBC One’s peak run with an impressive audience of 9.9 million viewers. The 30-minute soap, which saw Kat and Alfie struggle through baby Tommy’s (James’) funeral, banked a 40.6% share between 7.30pm and 8pm.
BBC One’s popular hospital drama Holby City followed with 6.5 million peak viewers and a 25.2% average audience share during the pre-watershed slot.
At 9pm, Silent Witness easily attracted the peak-hour audience despite competition from ITV1’s new Taggart. More than 6.8 million viewers tuned in to Silent Witness between 9pm and 10pm, while a lower 2.5 million watched Taggart.
BBC Two’s Match of the Day Live also provided competition for ITV1’s latest Taggart series. The West Ham v Birmingham City game pulled in more than 3.4 million average viewers and a 13.7% audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm.
Channel 4’s new three part series Hugh’s Big Fish Fight, which aims to highlight the problems with the world’s dwindling fish supplies, also gave ITV1 a run for its money. The peak-hour documentary programme picked up 2.3 million average viewers and a 8.9% share (only slightly less than Taggart’s 9.8% average audience share).
Over on Channel 5, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation achieved an average audience of two million viewers and a 7.7% share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-slot.
