TV Viewing Summary – Emmerdale Beats Eastenders Lambs Down
The special hour-long edition of Yorkshire television’s Emmerdale, broadcast on 02/01/96 beat BBC1’s edition of Eastenders which started half an hour later at 7.30pm. The rural soap pulled in 13.36 million viewers compared to 12.22 for Eastenders. There is no consolidated share of viewing available for Emmerdale because Central Scotland broadcasts Emmerdale at a different time to the rest of the network, but Eastenders, with lower audiences, achieved a share of 43%.
Programmes that appeared in this week’s top thirty list include; French and Saunders who were viewed by 11.89 million people; A Touch Of Frost which had 16.71 million viewers; Gladiators: The Ashes which was watched by 11.99 million people and Hettie Wainthropp Investigates which had an audience of 11.58 milllion viewers.
Total television for the week ending 07/01/96 has remained high after last week’s christmas viewing. Individuals 4+ watched an average of 30 hours and 11 minutes, which is down by more than two hours when compared to last week’s total but is 2.0% up on the total for the same week last year.
