Website Of The Week: Virgin Radio

http://www.virginradio.co.uk/

Virgin Radio’s new net site contains information on every aspect of Virgin Radio imaginable: ranging from ratecard information to personal profiles of DJs and staff.

The Virgin pages are attractively designed using cartoon-style graphics, bright colours and clever animations. The pages can take time to download and the structure of the site can be confusing – the same information often appears in more than one section.

Some of the pages are a bit pointless, like the helicopter ‘tour’ around London which just shows pictures of London’s sights, but most of the site contains interesting and useful information. This includes the part of the advertising section which has data on the average Virgin listener (such as lifestyle and attitudes), a list of records on the Virgin playlist and more technical aspects which give tips on how to receive Virgin via satellite TV. There is also an On-line Virgin Radio newspaper, though it is a bit thin on ‘news’.

On a more interactive level you can enter competitions electronically, actually listen to the live radio broadcasts and take part in ‘The Quiz’. The problem with the last two facilities is that special tools have to be accessed which can take a very long time to download.
