Sony to launch PlayStation mobile phone

Sony Ericsson has combined gaming and mobile to launch the new Xperia Play phone – a handset based on the PlayStation Portable.

The new mobile phone, which is due to hit the shops in April, has a large touch screen and a slide out control panel, similar to the PlayStation Portable console, according to Marketing Week.

The Xperia Play will run on Google’s Android platform and will mark the first time Sony has developed a device that allows its PS games to play on non-Sony hardware.

Sony Ericsoon said the device will offer a “console-like gaming experience with superb stereo sound”.
