It is rumoured that Virgin Group is in negotiations with CinVen to sell some of its smaller cinemas.
A spokesman confirmed that Virgin had been approached regarding selling some of its smaller cinemas inherited from its takeover of MGM, but would not give any further details.
Speculation indicates that around 80 of the 120 cinemas would be sold in a deal worth about £70m.
