News of the World and The Times‘ online offerings enjoyed double-digit growth in January, according to latest UKOM/Nielsen data.
Despite being behind a paywall, the News of the World site recorded 627,000 unique visitors in January, up from 465,000 unique visitors in December.
The Times and Sunday Times‘ site – which was the first of the two to go behind a paywall – also saw an increase, up 31.8% to 1.6 million unique visitors. However, these figures are based on all visitors, not just those who signed up and paid to go beyond the paywall.
The Sun‘s online offering, which is still free to access, enjoyed a 19% rise to 3.3 million visitors, according to NMA.
However, BBC News is still the most visited site, despite seeing its audience numbers drop by 7.1%. In January, the site recorded 10.5 million visitors.
MainOnline ranked second in the UKOM/Nielsen listings with 5.6 million unique visitors, followed by The Guardian, which recorded 4.9 million visitors in January.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph claimed 4.2 million unique visitors in January (up 2.7%) and the Independent posted a 8.9% rise to 2 million users.
The Mirror edged slightly ahead of the Independent after a 1.9% increase.
