TV Overnights: UEFA Champions League scores 6.3m for ITV1

ITV1’s UEFA Champions League coverage scored a high of more than 6.3 million viewers last night.

The Manchester United v Marseille game, which ended nil-nil, achieved an average audience of 4.9 million viewers and a 21% audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm.

However, viewers started to drift off towards the end of the match, switching over to BBC One’s Masterchef.

The 20 chosen candidates in the new-look Masterchef competition faced their first challenge in front of judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace. A high of more than 5.6 million viewers tuned in towards to end of the show to see which 12 candidates were put through to the next stage.

Overall, the hour-long programme won 4.9 million viewers and a 20.1% average audience share for BBC One between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, Channel 4’s new The Real King’s Speech attracted 2.7 million average viewers and a 11.3% audience share, while Channel 5’s NCIS picked up over 2 million viewers and a 8.2% share.

On BBC Two, the penultimate A History of Ancient Britain pulled in a slightly lower 1.9 million viewers and a 8% average share.
