TV Viewing Summary – Rise For Other Viewing
BBC1’s new Saturday night drama series Dalziel and Pascoe has been beaten in the Saturday ratings war by Stars In Their Eyes. The cop show managed to attract 9.76 million viewers compared to 11.13 million for ITV’s show. Dalziel and Pascoe had a 38% consolidated share of the viewing audience, the lowest of all BBC1’s Saturday night prime time line-up; the rest managed 40% or above.
One of Take That’s last British TV apperances helped Des O’Connor Tonight to enter the top thirty programme list. The programme was watched by 9.71 million viewers easily beating BBC1 factual programme How Do They Do That? which only managed to get 7.59 million viewers.
Other viewing has for the first time achieved a weekly share of total viewing more than 10% (10.2%), this beats the previous best of 9.7% for the weeks ending 20/08/95 and 07/01/96. Overall television viewing the week ending 17/03/96 has risen slightly by 0.6% when compared to the same week last year. In Astra panel homes the channel that has improved the most on its previous weeks total is a the Sky New Channels package, which has risen by 28 minutes to an average of 47 minutes viewed.
