TV Overnights: Silk wins the peak-hour ratings for BBC One

BBC One’s latest crime drama Silk easily banked the peak-hour ratings last night with a high of more than five million viewers.

The third episode of the six part series attracted more than 4.8 million average viewers and a 19.4% audience share during the 9pm to 10pm peak slot, ahead of ITV1’s new Caroline Quentin documentary and Heston’s Mission Impossible.

Caroline Quentin: A Passage Through India debuted with more than 2.3 million average viewers and a 9.3% share, though Channel 5’s popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation came a close third in the peak-hour ratings war with 2.2 million average viewers and a 9.1% share.

On Channel 4, the penultimate Heston’s Mission Impossible, which saw the chef attempting to revolutionise British Airways’ in-flight menu, achieved an average audience of 1.8 million viewers and a 7.5% share.

At the same time, BBC Two’s Horizon: Predators in your Backyard picked up 1.6 million viewers and a 6.5% share.

However, BBC One’s Eastenders secured the highest overall ratings of the night in the 7.30pm to 8pm slot. More than 8.9 million viewers tuned in to see the Phil, Shirley and Glenda drama unfold.
