TV Overnights: New Candy Cabs wins 5.5m viewers

BBC One’s new prime time drama Candy Cabs started on a high of more than 5.5 million viewers last night.

The three-part series starring Jo Joyner, Claire Sweeney and Paul Nicholls, easily won the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour ratings with 5.4 million average viewers and a 22.5% audience share.

Elsewhere, ITV1’s new two-part documentary Smugglers pulled in over three million average viewers and a 12.7% share during the 9pm to 10pm slot, while BBC Two’s new Filthy Cities show attracted 2.3 million average viewers and a 9.6% share.

Channel 5’s popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation came next in line with 2.2 million viewers and a 9.2% share, followed by Channel 4’s penultimate Katie: My Beautiful friends, which settled on 1.4 million viewers and a 6% share.

BBC One also dominated the early evening line-up – Eastenders banked the highest ratings of the night during the 7.30pm to 8pm slot, peaking with more than 8.4 million viewers, while Holby City secured a high of over 5.9 million viewers during the 8pm to 9pm slot.
