Right Sided Ads No Better Than Left

Right Sided Ads No Better Than Left

J Walter Thompson has published details of a survey it had commissioned by Beck Consultancy into national daily newspapers. The survey was carried out in the London and South East area between Tuesday September 24th and Saturday September 28th and some of its findings were:

  • The placing of advertisements in broadsheets make no difference as to whether a reader notices it or not. In tabloid newspapers papers, adverts appearing on the left hand side of the newspaper are more noticeable than those appearing on the right hand side.
  • Colour adverts are no more likely to be noticed in tabloid newspapers than those appearing in black and white.
  • The influence of colour adverts against black and white creates a distinct difference between broadsheets and tabloid.
  • Readers of mid-market newspapers find press advertising more credible than television advertising.
  • Mid-market newspaper readers are less likely to read a second newspaper than tabloid or broadsheet readers.
