Microsoft’s aim to bring serious journalism to the World Wide Web resulted in the launch of their new website Slate on the 24th June. Updated daily, the interactive online magazine is set to tackle a mix of politics, culture and public policy.

Michael Kinsley, former Editor of The New Republic and CNN’s Crossfire and now editor of Slate said:

“We hope Slate will come to mean good, original journalism in this new medium.”

Slate will also be available on paper, titled “Slate On Paper,” in the US and will cover highlights of the internet site. Arrangements have also been made so that various articles will be featured in TIME magazine.

Slate is available on the Web free of charge until the 1st November 1996 and thereafter will have annual subscription rates of $19.95. Members of MSN (Microsoft Network) will receive Slate free of charge.
