ITV1’s fly on the wall prison documentary banked more than 5.3 million viewers at 9pm last night.
The last in the series of Strangeways achieved an average audience of 5.1 million viewers and a 21.6% share during the full 9pm to 10pm peak-hour slot.
It easily beat BBC One’s new one-off Supersize Ambulance to the top spot. The BBC documentary attracted 3.3 million average viewers and a 14% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.
Next in line was Channel 5’s popular The Hotel Inspector with Alex Polizzi. The hour-long programme pulled in 1.8 million average viewers and a 7.5% share.
At the same time, BBC Two’s new All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace picked up 1.3 million viewers and a 5.6% share, while Channel 4’s penultimate Gordon’s Great Escape banked just over a million viewers and a 4.6% share.
In the pre-watershed slots, Eastenders won the highest ratings of the night, peaking with 9.2 million viewers. However, ITV1’s Coronation Street wasn’t far behind with a high of 8.7 million viewers.
