Doctor Who Brightens Up BBC1’s Bank Holiday Viewing Figures
The long awaited return of BBC1’s classic sci-fi drama series Doctor Who looks to have been a success with 9.08 million people watching the good doctor’s first adventure in over seven years. It was the third most watched programme on Monday 27th May behind Coronation Street and Eastenders and had a 36% consolidated share of the viewing audience. With no other big programmes or films being shown, the Bank Holiday was again a disappointing day for viewing figures with only 5 programmes attracting audiences of above 8 million.
This week has been a good week for factual programmes with 7 making this week’s top thirty programme list, the most watched being Police, Camera, Action which had 9.29 million viewers. Other programmes making the top thirty list include; Bugs which had 7.36 million viewers, Frontiers watched by 7.74 million people and the repeat showing of A Touch Of Frost which attracted an audience of 8.43 million viewers.
Total television viewing for all people over the age of 4 has fallen by 4.02% for the week ending 02/06/96 when compared to the same week last year. In Astra Panel homes viewing for all channels has also fallen, this time by 5.3%, when compared to the same week last year.
